February Puts Winter Snow Total At 33"

Dalhart Weather Review
for Feb. 24 - Mar. 2
by Aaron Graves

It has been a snowy week for the XIT City! Dalhart picked up another 5.3" of snow on Feb. 27 and Feb. 28. When melted, it equaled 0.43" of precipitation.

That capped off a month where we received a whopping 14.1" of snow, a good 11" above the 30 year average. This, combined with some light rain earlier, gave us 1.59" of precipitation - 1.19" above normal.

Dalhart has seen 3.31" of precipitation since the beginning of the year (2.32" above normal). That is already half the amount of precipitation we received for all of 2011 when the drought was just getting started.

Dalhart's overall snowfall since winter began is now 33.3", which is 19.5" above normal.

February 2015 ended with an average high temperature of 54.5 degrees and an average low of 24.6 degrees."

What is in store for us this month? March averages 1.17" of precipitation and 4.2" of snow. Last year we fell short of those numbers. As for temperatures, March typically sees warmer days, with an average high of 62.9 degrees.

Yep, spring is just around the corner. We may be shoveling snow today, but give it a couple of weeks, and we could be watching spring thunderstorms roll across the Panhandle.
